The Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Indiana was the home of several thousand mentally-challenged residents over an 85-year period.
In 2001 the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration announced the center would be closing. The center was officially closed in 2005.
Charlie Fordice, 89, had called Muscatatuck his home for more than 50 years of his life. In October 2004 he was relocated to a new group home setting which he shared with his long-time roommate Jimmy.
The transition was difficult for Charlie and the several caregivers who grew to love him at Muscatatuck. But ultimately his move was successful and he adapted well to his new life.
